Shea Weber becomes first defenseman in Predators history to record hat trick (Video)
Nashville Predators defenseman Shea Weber blasted his way into the team record book with a hat trick Saturday. Weber became the first Predators blueliner in team history to score three goals in one game.
Above is video of Weber’s hatty. His third goal put Nashville up 4-2 in the third period against the Detroit Red Wings at Joe Louis Arena on Saturday. The Predators eventually allowed three unanswered goals to to lose to the Red Wings, 5-4 in overtime.
Gustav Nyquist fired the game-winner at the 1:41 mark.
Hat tricks by defenseman are a rarity in the NHL. Weber’s former Predators teammate Ryan Suter scored the last NHL hat trick by a defenseman on Jan. 4, 2014 for the Minnesota Wild.
Weber is tied with Brent Burns for the NHL goal scoring lead amongst defensemen with nine.
