Ryan Ellis squirts water bottle toward referee after Darren Helm hit (Video)
Nashville Predators defenseman Ryan Ellis let emotions get the best of him in Saturday’s 5-4 overtime loss to the Detroit Red Wings.
In the second period Ellis took a high hit from Red Wings forward Darren Helm and was not pleased with the play. Later on the bench, he squirted his water bottle at referee Dan O’Rourke in order to get his attention.
Helm was called for roughing and Nashville defenseman Shea Weber scored six seconds later to put the score at 3-1 in favor of the Predators.
Ellis slammed Helm at the 17:21 mark of the third period and was called for boarding in the below video.
Detroit forward Justin Abdelkader tied the game at 4-4 just 16 seconds later on the ensuing power play.
Ellis played 19:26 and had an assist in the game. He’s an important offensive component of Nashville’s blueline – arguably the NHL’s best – with 11 points in 25 games played this season.
