Here are my suggestions when trying to beat the odds.
Before Week 13 of the 2015 NFL season schedule kicks off, I thought we would have some fun by taking a look at the spreads for this week’s round of games. (Click here for NFL Week 13 picks without regard to the spread.)
Here are my suggestions when trying to beat the odds. You can find all of today’s NFL betting lines and more at the SB Nation odds page via OddsShark. My record so far this season is 71-83-5 after going 8-5 last week. I finally finished above .500 for the first time in forever.
2015 NFL WEEK 13 PICKS AGAINST THE SPREAD
Jacksonville Jaguars at Tennessee Titans (-2.5): The Jaguars got the best of the Titans when these two teams met on Thursday Night Football a few weeks ago. Now the game will be played in Tennessee. I’m betting on former Eagles quarterback Marcus Mariota here to get the Titans their first win since early November. Pick: Titans -2.5
San Francisco 49ers at Chicago Bears (-7): The Bears have managed to win three out of their last four games, and their only loss came by two points. Jay Cutler should be able to have success against this 49ers defense. Pick: Bears -7
Arizona Cardinals (-6) at St. Louis Rams: St. Louis was able to beat Arizona earlier this season, but Nick Foles is playing like garbage right now. There’s no way you can bet on him. The Cardinals are the much better team. Pick: Cardinals -6
Houston Texans at Buffalo Bills (-3): The Texans defense is playing really well. They’ve only allowed an average of 8.75 points per game during this four game win streak. It’s hard to bet against the Bills in Buffalo, but I like the upset potential here. Pick: Texans +3
Seattle Seahawks (-2) at Minnesota Vikings: Football Outsiders has the Seahawks as their No. 5 overall team while the Vikings are only No. 16 overall. Why bet against advanced metrics? Pick: Seahawks -2
New York Jets (-2) at New York Giants: I’m on the fence in this game. New York hasn’t been so hot lately, but neither has New York. New York won last week while New York lost. New York really needs this win to stay alive, but so does New York. I’d just like to point out how New York doesn’t actually play in New York, and neither does New York. New York plays in New Jersey, and so does New York. So I’ll take New York to win and cover. Pick: Jets -2
Cincinnati Bengals (-10) at Cleveland Browns: I don’t think the Browns are going to get much going with Austin Davis. The Bengals should be able to win comfortably. Pick: Bengals -10
Atlanta Falcons (-1) at Tampa Bay Buccaneers: It feels like the Falcons are due for a win after losing four in a row, but I never like betting on them on the road. The Buccaneers already beat Atlanta at the Georgia Dome earlier this season, so they can get this win. Pick: Buccaneers +1
Baltimore Ravens at Miami Dolphins (-4): The Ravens are playing on short rest and interception machine Matt Schaub is starting at quarterback, so I definitely don’t like them. Pick: Dolphins -4
Denver Broncos (-4.5) at San Diego Chargers: Philip Rivers is really good in December. I’m really tempted to take the Chargers even though they’re the worse team. Maybe the Bolts won’t win, but maybe they’ll be able to keep it very close. Pick: Chargers +4.5
Kansas City Chiefs (-3) at Oakland Raiders: I’m going to double down on AFC West upsets this week and say the Chiefs are due for a loss after winning five straight. Sorry, Andy Reid. Pick: Raiders +3
Carolina Panthers (-7) at New Orleans Saints: This Saints defense can’t stop anyone. You just can’t bet on them. Pick: Panthers -7
Philadelphia Eagles at New England Patriots (-9): The spread should probably be larger than this considering the Eagles have been outscored by a combined 59 points in their last two games. The Patriots are going to win this game. The only debatable part is if they will cover, and they probably will. Pick: Patriots -9
Indianapolis Colts at Pittsburgh Steelers (-7.5): This is weird. The Colts are undefeated with Matt Hasselbeck starting, yet they’re 7.5 point underdogs. Why should I start betting against him now? Pick: Colts +7.5
Dallas Cowboys at Washington Redskins (-3): Dallas wasn’t able to win a game without Tony Romo before and nothing makes me think they will be able to do so now. Washington is going to win the NFC East. Pick: Washington -3
