Reports: North Texas to hire North Carolina OC Seth Littrell
Another FBS coaching vacancy has reportedly been filled.
According to ESPN and the Denton Record-Chronicle, North Texas has hired North Carolina offensive coordinator Seth Littrell to be its next head coach. The Record-Chronicle reported Friday that the school’s board of regents will hold a conference call Saturday to approve Littrell’s contract.
Littrell, who has spent the last two seasons at UNC, leads a Tar Heels offense that is averaging 41.3 points and 495.7 yards per game. Littrell and the tenth-ranked Tar Heels are set to take on Clemson in Saturday night’s ACC title game.
Before his time in Chapel Hill, Littrell, a native of Muskogee, Okla., had stints as an offensive assistant at Indiana, Arizona, Texas Tech and Kansas. He played at Oklahoma.
Littrell will replace Dan McCarney, who was fired in October after the Mean Green lost 66-7 at home to FCS Portland State. McCarney had a 22-32 overall record with North Texas. The Mean Green went 1-11 this season.
TCU co-offensive coordinator Doug Meacham was reportedly the other finalist for the job.
