Henrik Stenson wills putt into the hole at the Nedbank Golf Challenge
Sometimes, the ball listens.
In the third round of the Nedbank Golf Challenge on Saturday, Henrik Stenson had a birdie putt on the ninth hole at Gary Player Golf and Country Club in South Africa that seemed like it didn’t want to go into the hole. As the putt seemingly came to a stop, Stenson forcefully pointed his finger toward the ball, imploring it to drop. It did.
The birdie got Stenson back to even par on the day, and helped the Swede, who is scheduled for knee surgery next week, to get over a whiff earlier in the round. On the par-5 second hole, Stenson attempted a delicate flop shot and his club slid completely under the ball.
In the end, Stenson shot 2-under to fall one behind the lead with Aussie Marc Leishman in the 30-player field on 14-under 202.
Of the four Americans in the field, Robert Streb is doing best, alone in fourth at 9 under, a shot behind South African Jaco Van Zyl.
