Eldora truck race no longer titled ‘Mudsummer’ after settlement with MLB
When we went to Eldora in 2015 for the Camping World Truck Series race, we never thought of a connection between the “Mud Summer Classic” and Major League Baseball’s All-Star game, nicknamed the “Midsummer Classic.”
MLB thought of the connection, however.
Eldora Speedway, the dirt track owned by Tony Stewart, announced it had reached a settlement with Major League Baseball to no longer use “Mudsummer” and “Mud Summer” in the name of its now-annual truck race. The space was added between the two words in 2015 to avoid further confusion. It apparently didn’t work.
“We hope all of the baseball fans who traveled to Rossburg, Ohio the past three years in anticipation of the MLB All-Star Game enjoyed the race and the $2 beers,” Eldora president Roger Slack said in a statement.
Well played, Eldora. And yes, the $2 beers are great. It’s a huge part of the appeal of the race. And Steve’s sloppy meat of course.
We’re hoping the track has a softball game for drivers before this year’s race. It’s only appropriate to honor the settlement with a game. And maybe MLB has asked Eldora for usage of the facilities in a dirt track race between baseball players? We’d love to watch that.
