Patrick Kane ties Blackhawks record with 21-game point streak

Patrick Kane’s historic season hit another high point Thursday. The Chicago Blackhawks winger tied franchise icon Bobby Hull for longest point streak in team history at 21 games. Hull set the mark in 1971-72. 

Kane scored a goal on Ottawa Senators netminder Craig Anderson to tie the record. The score cut in Ottawa’s lead at the time, making it 2-1 in favor of the Senators. In the 21 games played Kane (who later added two assists in the contest) has 35 points. Chicago lost 4-3 in overtime.

Hull’s streak came between Dec. 5, 1971 and Jan. 23, 1972. 

Kane spoke about his relationship with Hull before the game per the Chicago Sun-Times: 

“I’ve grown pretty close to Bobby over the past few years, he’s an awesome guy to be around,” Kane said before the game. “His stories about him playing hockey are ones to marvel at, and ones that get you excited about playing hockey, as well. We’ve become pretty close, and [I’ve got] nothing but good things to say about him. I’m sure he’s watching, and knowing him, he’s always cheering us on.”

Wayne Gretzky holds the NHL’s longest point scoring streak at 51 games. In 2010, Pittsburgh’s Sidney Crosby scored 26 goals and notched 24 assists in 25 games played. 

Kane is on pace for 50 goals and 129 points. Both would best his career-high of 30 goals and 88 points – set in the 2009-10 season.
