Heyman: Orioles interested in Mariners' Trumbo
The Orioles are in the mix now for Mariners slugger Mark Trumbo, who is on the trade block.
Seattle is gauging interest in Trumbo ahead of the tender deadline Wednesday. Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports reported that Rockies as a possibility for Trumbo, as well.
The Orioles are looking for a first baseman, a DH and a an outfielder or two, so Trumbo fits for them. They have been in talks with their own free agent star Chris Davis, who is their main target, but Davis is expected to blow away the Orioles’ record contract with a big nine-figure deal. Baltimore so far has re-acquired one outfielder, L.J. Hoes.
Trumbo wouldn’t figure to be a player who is non-tendered, but the Mariners may be convinced they are better to move him now, anyway. He would be expected to go from the $6.7 million he made in 2015 to about $9 million via the arbiration process.
In any case. Seattle would prefer to save money at first base and spend it on their own free-agent pitcher, Hisashi Iwakuma.
Trumbo hit 22 home runs and batted .262 last year between stays with Arizona and Seattle.
