NHL Three Stars: Campbell’s OT goal lifts Panthers over Red Wings
No. 1 Star: Brian Campbell, Florida Panthers
Campbell started the transition behind the Florida net in overtime and then beat Petr Mrazek while trailing the play to give the Panthers a 2-1 victory over the Detroit Red Wings.
According to the NHL, that was the second overtime of Campbell’s career. The first came nearly a decade ago (Dec. 1, 2005).
No. 2 Star: Roberto Luongo, Florida Panthers
Luongo made 28 saves for his second straight win and allowed two goals or less for the fourth time in five starts. The Panthers netminder also played in 883rd career NHL game, passing John Vanbiesbrouck for eighth place on the all-time list.
No. 3 Star: Reilly Smith, Florida Panthers
Smith tallied his sixth goal of the year late in the second period to even the score. It was Smith’s first goal in nine games.
Honorable Mention: Florida’s win was their fifth in a row in Detroit and sixth out of their last seven at Joe Louis Arena … Dylan Larkin scored his 10th goal of the season. He now leads all rookies in that category.
