Carlo Colaiacovo treated for ‘dented trachea’ after throat cross-check (Video)
Carlo Colaiacovo has an injury history in the NHL that could probably fill a few medical journals. There have been concussions and hand injuries and knee injuries and leg injuries and countless other ailments.
But never a “dented trachea.” Not until Saturday night, at least.
The Buffalo Sabres defenseman was guarding his crease when the Nashville Predators’ Viktor Arvidsson spun into him and cross-checked him in the throat.
Colaiacovo went down to the ice, in obvious pain, slowly crawling in his own zone as the whistle sounded. He was helped to the back.
Arvidsson was given a cross-checking major and a game misconduct. The Sabres got some measure of revenge for their fallen teammate, getting power-play goals from Jamie McGinn and Sam Reinhart in their 4-1 win over Nashville.
After the game, Sabres coach Dan Bylsma announced that Colaiacovo had a “dented trachea:
Well, if it’s anything like our car, they just need to get in their with a tiny hammer and bang out that dent, right?
So … guess the suspension for Viktor Arvidsson. Yikes.
