With the Apple Cup less than 24 hours away, our UW and WSU beat reporters and our columnists made their predictions for the game. Huskies or Cougars? Our pundits weigh in.
Adam Jude: Washington 30, WSU 20. Presuming Luke Falk doesn’t play, Washington’s defense should be able to shut down Washington State’s backup QB for the second year in a row.
Stefanie Loh: WSU 28, Washington 24. Even if it’s Peyton Bender at quarterback for the Cougars, I don’t think Washington can shut down the Air Raid entirely, nor do I believe the Huskies’ offense can do enough to outscore Washington State.
Percy Allen: Washington 28, WSU 24. The Huskies are surprisingly healthy for the regular-season finale, while it’s uncertain if Washington State quarterback Luke Falk will be available.
Matt Calkins: Washington 21, WSU 17. The home-field advantage and allure of a bowl game will give the Huskies the edge in a down-to-the-wire Apple Cup.
Larry Stone: Washington 28, WSU 27. This pick is based on the hunch that quarterback Luke Falk won’t be playing for WSU, which should provide the opening for a motivated Husky team to eke out the victory. If Washington’s defense somewhat neutralizes WSU’s offense, I think the opposite matchup — UW’s offense vs. WSU’s defense — slightly favors the Huskies. If Falk starts ahead of Peyton Bender, well, all bets are off.
