Cowboys’ Tony Romo leaves game after re-injuring left clavicle in blowout loss to Panthers
Already down 30-6 to the undefeated Carolina Panthers, the Dallas Cowboys suffered a huge blow when quarterback Tony Romo re-injured his left clavicle, the same one he broke in Week 2 that kept him out for eight weeks.
Romo was injured when he was sacked by linebacker Thomas Davis Sr. and immediately clutched at his left collarbone as he lay on his back.
Team medical officials brought Romo back to the locker room and it was announced that he had a left clavicle injury, though there was no word on whether X-rays showed another break.
Though he led Dallas to victory over Miami last week, ending a seven-game losing streak, Romo didn’t have a good performance in his second game back on Thursday. The Panthers’ Kurt Coleman returned an interception 36 yards for a touchdown on the opening possession of the game, and he was picked off by linebacker Luke Kuechly on back-to-back attempts in the second quarter, with Kuechly also posting a pick-six on his first interception.
Romo finished 11-of-21 for 106 passing yards and three interceptions. The Cowboys lost, 33-14.
Matt Cassel came in at quarterback when Romo left, and led the Cowboys to their first touchdown of the game, though by that point they were down 33-6. Cassel completed a short touchdown pass to Cole Beasley and also got the 2-point conversion on a pass to Darren McFadden.
