The Daily Dose: Dose: Jumper George

Well, the Warriors are 16-0 for the biggest story of the night in the mainstream NBA world, but the fantasy world was buzzing about Paul George.

The Pacers had one of the craziest jump-shooting nights you’ll see this season. They managed to score 123 points with just 26 points in the paint and just 16 points at the line.

Paul George was the reason why for the biggest game of the night. He made 14-of-19 from the field for 40 points with eight rebounds, four assists, two steals and seven 3-pointers in a 123-106 win over the Wizards. The 40 points doesn’t even really do him justice to how well he shot the ball. Here are some of his shots from last night:

Those aren’t easy and he’s been doing that all year. He just made shot after shot last night and his shot chart is really more impressive to express how well he lights it up:

One shot at the rim! One! Like Rod Strickland! How crazy is that? Well, even in Stephen Curry’s four 40-point games, he had at least four shots at the rim in all of them. Interestingly, it’s been the shooting that has been carrying PG all season. Here’s a look at his shot chart on the year:

Insane in the membrane. He’s now up to 45.8 percent from the field, 45.7 percent from 3, a 59.7 true shooting percentage (TS%) and has a 30.7 usage rate. If you’re at 60 TS% with a 30 usage rate, you’re an MVP candidate.

OK, so I think even the biggest Paul George backer will tell you he’s not going to make this many jumpers. You simply can’t take that many shots away from the basket and stay consistent unless you’re Steph Curry. George was also doing a similar thing during his breakout year in 2013-14, so if I own him I’d be looking to deal him.

George wasn’t the only Pacer to go bonkers. C.J. Miles stayed red hot with 32 points, three rebounds, three assists, one steal and eight 3-pointers. He came in knocking down 4.0 treys per game in his previous three and the Pacers are now drawing up plays for him. He and PG helped the Pacers make a franchise-record 19 treys. Simply put, you have to add Miles now. He is the king of the in-game injury, but the new Pacers system fits his skill set extremely well. Here’s how hot he is right now.

As for the Wizards, perhaps the biggest story for fantasy was Jared Dudley starting the third quarter. Dudley played 15 minutes in the first half and saw his minutes increase in his previous four games (17. 20, 23 and 27). He did only finish at 27 minutes, scoring five points with two rebounds, two assists and one 3-pointer. I think he would’ve played more if not for Gary Neal going berserk. Neal scored 23 points with three rebounds, one steal and five 3-pointers. Going forward, Neal looks like a guy to consider in 16-team leagues, but I’d prefer Dudley. Kris Humphries only played nine minutes and should be dropped almost everywhere.

John Wall was super sloppy with eight turnovers, adding 18 points, four rebounds, five assists and three 3-pointers. He was 5-of-9 from the field, so at least he was efficient. His buy-low window will close soon. Bradley Beal was better with 20 points, four boards, three dimes, two steals and two 3-pointers.

Paul-Stars (Atlanta 121, Boston 97)

Who is the more underrated Paul? I think it’s Millsap over George. Paul Millsap is basically the Eastern Conference Draymond Green, but he’s actually putting up first-round value. Millsap scored 25 points with nine rebounds, three assists, one steal, one block and two turnovers. He is a first-round player on the year and he might stay there.

Jeff Teague also made his first start since his ankle injury with 16 points, nine dimes, two steals and one 3-pointer in 26 minutes. He’ll be trending up now that he’s over his ankle injury. Al Horford also had solid game with 11 points, four boards, four assists, one block and one 3-pointer. Not good, but solid.

So the big fantasy surprise was Thabo Sefolosha. He scored 15 points on 7-of-8 from the field with seven rebounds, three assists, three steals and three blocks. Kent Bazemore will be back, so I wouldn’t add Thabo unless I have dead weight. This could also be bad news for Baze when he comes back, which could be this week. Lamar Patterson looked good again with 10 points, six boards, three dimes and three 3-pointers. Dennis Schroder loses a lot of value now and scored just six points in 19 minutes. You can cut him in several formats.

Avery Bradley is rolling. He scored 25 points with one rebound, two assists, three steals, one block and four 3-pointers. He’s putting up top-40 value (!) per game right now. I think he can be a top-70 guy on the season and maybe even top 60.

Besides that, we can pretty much throw out everything. R.J. Hunter is in the rotation now and scored 12, so keep that in mind for deep leagues. In a perfect world, Evan Turner is traded and Hunter plays in his minutes once Marcus Smart (leg) is back. The bigs were a mess. Amir Johnson (four points and seven boards in 22 minutes), Jared Sullinger (seven points, five boards and two assists in 21 minutes) and David Lee (10 points and six boards in 25 minutes) are so annoying to own. Jae Crowder was a letdown with six points, three boards and two assists.
