The two biggest winners of the offseason are Yoan Moncada’s biceps
The offseason just started, but we’re already getting our usual smattering of fun and ridiculous stories. Jose Fernandez is reportedly a problem in the clubhouse, Clayton Kershaw hates Yasiel Puig and Robinson Cano is tired of Seattle.
Those are the types of things you hear in November. Are they true? It’s tough to say. Do they inspire hot takes and headlines? Most definitely.
[Elsewhere: Robinson Cano is not happy in Seattle]
Around January, those stories start to change. Once free agency is basically over, and teams are settled, you start to see similar narratives emerge. We’re talking about the “best shape of his life” articles. You know, the ones that claim a previously disappointing player reported to camp in great shape?
Well, it’s early, but we may have already stumbled on one of those. While no one has written it yet, we’re going to guess Boston Red Sox prospect Yoan Moncada is currently in the best shape of his life.
Don’t believe us, here’s the proof:
Those arms are so large they might make even Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson blush. Those are some massive, massive pythons.
In his first season in the minors, the 20-year-old Moncada hit eight home runs in 81 games for the Class A Greenville Drive. We’re going to go out on a limb and say he hits for more power next year.

Seriously, though, Moncada is already among the best prospects in the game. He’s young, he’s talented and he appears to be in tremendous shape. If he’s going to head into next season looking like that, the Red Sox are probably going to be pretty happy with their $31.5 million investment.
