CBJ lose Tyutin, Goloubef taken to hospital, forced to play four defensemen
By the end of the first period, the Columbus Blue Jackets were up 2-0 on the Nashville Predators and down 2 defensemen.
The team lost Fedor Tyutin first to an upper-body injury. The play was so innocuous no one seems to be able to identify exactly when it happened.
On the other hand, Cody Goloubef’s injury could not be missed. It was a freak accident. Nashville’s Colin Wilson takes a shot on net and Gregory Campbell appears to deflect it as Goloubef is coming around the net. It hits the defenseman right in the face.
Here’s the video from Some Hockey Videos:
Goloubef, holding his face, went directly to the locker room. Later the Blue Jackets announced neither defensemen would return and Goloubef had been taken to a local hospital:
The Blue Jackets played the final two periods with 4 defensemen. The four logged heavy ice-time for the game: Ryan Murray (23:32), Kevin Connauton (24:31), Jack Johnson (29:25), and David Savard (30:48). Thanks in big part to Sergei Bobrovsky, the Jackets were able to hold off the Preds, winning 4-0. John Tortorella had no update after the game.
Friend of the blog, Alison L., pointed somewhat sad piece of irony, seemingly befitting of the Blue Jackets season thus far. It was #GiveEmHealth night in Columbus sponsored by Ohio Health. Apparently that applies to fans only.
