The Minnesota Golden Gophers and the Temple Owls face off on Thursday afternoon in Puerto Rico in round one of the Puerto Rico Tip-Off Tournament.

The Minnesota Golden Gophers are off to a 2-0 start to the season after beating UMKC and Louisiana Monroe. Minnesota is averaging 71.5 points per game and they are shooting 41.6 percent from the floor including 30 percent from beyond the three-point arc while defensively they are allowing 57 points per game and their opponents are shooting 33.1 percent. Joey King leads the Golden Gophers with 21 points and 6.0 rebounds per game and he is hitting 91.7 percent of his free throws. Nate Mason is averaging 11.5 points, Kevin Dorsey is averaging 9.0 points and 5.0 rebounds, and Charles Buggs is averaging 8.5 points and 5.0 rebounds. Innesota is hoping for a season that lands them in the NCAA Tournment.

The Temple Owls started their season with a loss as they fell to number one ranked North Carolina 91-67. Temple shot 38 percent from the floor and 36 percent from beyond the three-point arc while allowing UNC to shoot 50.7 percent. Devin Coleman led Temple with 19 points. Shawn Alston had 12 points, Trey Lowe had 8.0 points, and Jaylen Bond had 8.0 rebounds. Temple faced a tough test in game one but the didn’t hold up under the pressure.

Minnesota is 6-1-1 against the spread in their last eight non-conference games, 2-7 against the spread following a win, and 5-2 against the spread against a team with a losing record. Temple is 3-8 against the spread against the Big Ten, 1-5 against the spread following a loss, and 1-7 against the spread in their last eight neutral site games.

Temple faced a tough opener and they are well rested and I expect them to get it done here.
