Fenway Park prepares to host Notre Dame-Boston College football game
Proving once again that baseball stadiums are the greatest, most versatile sports and entertainment venues in the world, Boston’s Fenway Park was selected and will play host to the Notre Dame and Boston College football game on Nov. 21.
As in the past when Fenway hosted the NHL’s Stadium Series, this means some serious work has been going on in recent weeks to prepare the ballpark for this unique venture. In this instance, the dirt infield, pitching mound and home plate area have been temporarily filled in with grass that’s suitable for football.

That’s quite a strange look for the American League’s oldest and most famous ballpark, but it’s also a pretty cool look with the Green Monster and Pesky’s Pole giving Fenway its usual charm. The view from the Monster seats should be incredible, and we’d guess the atmosphere will be top notch given the history of the Notre Dame-Boston College rivalry.
Here are a few still shots.
Of course, this isn’t the first time Fenway Park has hosted football. Several teams, including the NFL’s Boston Redskins and the AFL’s Boston Patriots have called Fenway Park home. Dartmouth College, Boston University and even Boston College have played a handful of games there as well.
Yet in spite of that history, it still feels unique, and should provide quite a spectacle to watch.
