Blackhawks' Toews drops gloves to fight again
Chicago Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews is not a fighter, but he has surprisingly found himself in the middle of one twice in the past week. Keep in mind that this is a player that before this season had fought just three times in his entire career.
But after fighting Adam Henrique of the New Jersey Devils last week, Toews dropped the gloves again with St. Louis Blues captain David Backes on Saturday night after Backes was penalized for boarding Niklas Hjalmarsson.
Here is a look at the hit and Toews’ immediate response.
It’s not the first time Toews and Backes have fought in the NHL. The two also dropped the gloves in January of 2010, meaning that two of Toews’ five career fights have now involved Backes.
It also wasn’t the first time Backes and Toews had a run-in on Saturday. Toews was penalized earlier in the game for an illegal check to the head of Backes.
It’s probably fair to say the two don’t really like playing against one another.
