Weekend Weather: Weather: Week 10 Forecasts
Week 10 promises to deliver mostly pleasant weather around the NFL, with just a few games expected to see concerning conditions this weekend. The entire country will be dry on Sunday except for the West coast and parts of Texas, leaving the vast majority of the Week 10 NFL slate unscathed from a weather perspective. With the San Diego Chargers and San Francisco 49ers on bye this week, we are left with weather issues in only Oakland, Seattle, and potentially Cincinnati as Mother Nature smiles upon the fantasy community with the playoffs approaching. Below, we will touch on the forecasts for all 13 remaining Week 10 games and deliver the most pertinent weather information before lineup decisions are due. Grab a rain jacket and don’t forget the umbrella as we splash through Week 10 weather forecasts around the NFL.
Winter Weather Watch
The following three games are the most noteworthy this week in terms of weather impact. All three of these contests will kickoff after the morning batch of games, so lineup decisions will likely need to be made early on the fantasy options that could potentially be impacted.
Minnesota at Oakland (4:05 PM ET): Partly cloudy skies and 59 degree temperatures will be reasonable at O.co Coliseum on Sunday and the Oakland forecast calls for just a 20 percent chance of rain. The major issue when Derek Carr and Teddy Bridgewater face off however, will be wind. Wind gusts are expected to be present during this game and could reach 20-30 mph levels, which is bad news for the fantasy options in this game.
Begin by dumping Blair Walsh/Sebastian Janikowski if you’re currently rostering either of these kickers, and dig through the options on the waiver wire for a safer choice. As for the Oakland and Minnesota passing games, I would knock both quarterbacks and the wide receivers in this game down a tier for Week 10. Winds over 20 mph generally begin to impact NFL passing games and gusts up to 30 mph could result in both teams leaning on their running games more with a decrease in passing effectiveness. Don’t recklessly bench the fantasy players in this game, but if you have a reasonably comparable option on your bench, go the safe route with this game.
Arizona at Seattle (8:30 PM ET): The Pacific Northwest will host a huge NFC West game on Sunday night when the Arizona Cardinals visit CenturyLink Field to take on the Seattle Seahawks. The Emerald City will also be offering a taste of its signature weather on Sunday, as rain is in the Seattle forecast. By the time night falls, the temperature will drop below 40 degrees and partly cloudy skies will be present with winds at a manageable level. Rain is a lock to fall in Seattle during the day, but the showers are expected to ease up by kickoff, so be aware that precipitation will be involved in this game. No major fantasy adjustments need to be made in this case, but a slight bump for both running games may be in order in case showers remain heavy through the evening.
Houston at Cincinnati (8:30 PM ET, Mon): Weather in Cincinnati will be comfortable on Monday, but there is a chance of rain showers moving into the area late on Monday night. Temperatures will be around 45 degrees when this game kicks off, with cloudy skies above Paul Brown Stadium. Wind won’t be an issue as the Bengals and Texans face off, but be aware that some precipitation may make its way into Cincinnati during the latter stages of this game. No major fantasy lineup changes need to be made at this point, but give the Cincinnati forecast one last check on Monday afternoon to be certain that rain won’t be worse than currently anticipated.
Worry-Free Weather
The nine games below will experience pleasant winter weather on Sunday, requiring no major fantasy lineup adjustments.
Detroit at Green Bay (1:00 PM ET): Conditions will be downright summer-like in Green Bay on Sunday, as the Packers and Lions will meet under sunny skies with 58 degree temperatures present at kickoff. Wind will not be an issue in this game, so all fantasy options can be started as normal in this NFC North battle.
Dallas at Tampa Bay (1:00 PM ET): Warm November temperatures are expected in Tampa on Sunday, as 82 degree weather will welcome the Dallas Cowboys to Raymond James Stadium. Skies will be partly cloudy, but winds should be monitored as gusts are expected to hit 15 mph. Winds of this level won’t require any significant fantasy adjustments, but the situation should be monitored on Sunday morning.
Carolina at Tennessee (1:00 PM ET): Cam Newton and Marcus Mariota will do battle under partly cloudy skies in 62 degree temperatures on Sunday. Winds of just 5 mph won’t be a concern, so all Panthers and Titans fantasy options are good to go this week.
New Orleans at Washington (1:00 PM ET): Perfect November conditions will be found at FedEx Field on Sunday when Washington hosts the New Orleans Saints. Sunny skies and 61 degree temperatures will be present during this contest, with 7 mph winds making an appearance. No weather-related fantasy concerns whatsoever in this game.
Miami at Philadelphia (1:00 PM ET): Sunny skies and 59 degree temperatures will welcome the Miami Dolphins to Philadelphia on Sunday in a pleasant setting for football. Winds will reach 11 mph, but won’t be of concern in this contest. All Eagles and Dolphins fantasy options are safe starts this week.
Cleveland at Pittsburgh (1:00 PM ET): Fine winter weather will make an appearance in Pittsburgh this week, as sunny skies and 61 degree temperatures will be present at Heinz Field when the Steelers host the visiting Cleveland Browns. Winds of 10 mph won’t be a concern, so all relevant fantasy players from this game can be started as normal.
Jacksonville at Baltimore (1:00 PM ET): Baltimore will see nearly identical conditions to those found in Pittsburgh on Sunday, with sunshine and 61 degree temperatures in the forecast. Winds will check in at 8 mph and won’t be a cause for concern for any Jaguars or Ravens players.
New England at NY Giants (4:25 PM ET): Sunshine will be out in full force on Sunday at MetLife Stadium, accompanied by 58 degree temperatures when the Giants host the New England Patriots. Winds will not be a cause for alarm at 10 mph, so feel free to start all Patriots and Giants fantasy options as normal.
Kansas City at Denver (4:25 PM ET): The Broncos will host the visiting Kansas City Chiefs under mostly sunny skies on Sunday, with 61 degree temperatures expected on Sunday in Denver. Wind won’t be a factor in this game, so all Broncos and Chiefs fantasy contributors can be trusted.
Home Teams Are Dome Teams
Only one game will be played indoors this week, as the St. Louis Rams host the Chicago Bears in the Edward Jones Dome.
Chicago at St. Louis (1:00 PM ET)
