Po-Jung Wang unleashes ferocious bat flip at Premier 12 tournament
The inaugural Premier 12 tournament, which features the top 12 ranked national teams, is underway in Taiwan and it’s already producing some memorable moments.
One moment that certainly caught our attention happened during the opening round matchup between Chinese Taipei and Canada, In the fifth inning, Taipei’s Po-Jung Wang launched an absolutely epic two-run homer against Canada’s Shawn Hill. The home run was a key moment in the game, as it temporarily evened the score at 4-4, and it was punctuated with perhaps the bat flip of the year.

Goodness gracious, that bat flip was ferocious.
It reminded us of Jose Bautista’s epic bat flip following his ALDS-clinching home run against the Texas Rangers. We’re sure any Canadian baseball fans watching thought the same thing. Although Wang’s may have been more of a bat toss, as he sent that piece of lumber flying.

One other difference between the two will be how it’s remembered in relation to the game’s result. While Bautista’s was a defining moment in a postseason victory, Wang’s was only a momentary reprieve in Taipei’s eventual 9-8 loss. Canada struck for three runs right away in the sixth inning to retake command of the game while making life awfully difficult on the Taipei squad.
The tournament is currently in the round-robin stage. Once that’s complete, the top eight remaining teams will battle it out in an eight-team elimination. With Friday’s win, Canada improved to 3-0, which is the top record in Group A. Taipei fell to 1-2, which puts them a fourth place tie in Group A.
Taipei, the No. 4 ranked team, will need a bounce back game against No. 3 ranked Cuba, which means they could use a couple more bat flips.
