Traina's Weekend Blitz: NFL Week 10 picks – FOXSports.com
Welcome to another edition of “Weekend Blitz,” a column that will appear on FOXSports.com each Friday during the football season. Consider this one of your must-read features as you wrap up the week and head into a Saturday and Sunday filled with pigskin. We’ll be giving out NFL picks, possibly some college football picks and plug some of the best content from the world of sports and pop culture.
Please come back every Friday, check FOXSports.com/Buzzer or follow me, @JimmyTraina, on Twitter.
The Jaguars steamrolled through the backdoor against the Jets last week to give us a 2-2 record instead of what would’ve been a nice 3-1. That leaves our mediocre season record at 20-19-1. We LOVE the Patriots this week and found four other games we like.
THE PICKS
PATRIOTS -7 AT GIANTS: The anti-Patriots crowd LOVES to point out how New England lost two Super Bowls to New York. While that is a fact, it has nothing to do with this game. The Giants do not “own” the Patriots because of wins in 2008 and 2012. The Giants have the worst defense in the NFL this season, allowing 422 yards per game. While the Dion Lewis injury will hurt New England, Bill Belichick will just plug in other guys who will get the job done, like always. More importantly, with Tom Brady playing at superior level (22 touchdowns, two interceptions this season) and on a major post-Deflategate mission, covering seven points will not be a problem at all.
SEAHAWKS -3 VS. CARDINALS: Seattle can pull within one game of Arizona in the NFC West with a win. After dropping a home game against Carolina two weeks ago, we can’t see the Seahawks losing another one in front of their raucous crowd. Both teams are coming off a bye week, so we’re going home team only laying a field goal.
BRONCOS -5.5 VS. CHIEFS: Denver’s dominating defense will be angry after losing to the Colts last week. Facing dink-and-dunker Alex Smith and a Chiefs team without Jamaal Charles will be the perfect tonic for the Broncos to get back on track. You won’t need a ton of points from Denver’s offense to cover this spread.
COWBOYS +2 AT BUCS: It’s very, very risky to ever put your hard-earned dollars on Matt Cassel, but Dallas has to snap its losing streak sooner or later. With the NFC East still up for grabs and Tony Romo expected to come back next week, the Cowboys need this win to keep their season alive. While Tampa Bay hasn’t been completely awful this season, we’ll go with the desperation angle here — although we wish we were getting one more point in case it’s a field-goal game.
REDSKINS +1 VS. SAINTS: New Orleans’ defense is pathetic, allowing nearly 30 points per game. With DeSean Jackson reportedly healthier than he’s been all season, Washington should be able to exploit the Saints‘ awful secondary. The Redskins should also be able to finally get Alfred Morris going. Drew Brees is never the same player outside of the a dome, so expect a relativly easy win for Washington.
