One desperate player waited three days outside Browns facility for workout
How far would you go to get a shot to try out for an NFL team?
Write 32 handwritten letters to every team’s GM once a month? Commission an airplane banner with your height, weight, stats and 40 time? Be willing to endure hours of Michael Irvin pontificating during the taping of the next “4th and Long” season?

For one desperate and unemployed player, former Maryland walk-on and ex-Towson standout Monte Gaddis, he was willing to sit for three days — one of them in the rain — outside the Cleveland Browns’ facility to get a chance.
Gaddis hung a cardboard sign around his neck with his key selling points. The strong safety/special teamer boasts of his college captaincy, his winning a national title at I-AA Towson, his All-America honors and his willingness to do any drills the Browns would have wanted. He even threw in a #ClevelandNative on the sign for good measure. Can’t hurt, right?
The one thing he forgot: a highlight tape. So when Browns GM Ray Farmer finally emerged on the third day (he’s been busy) and asked Gaddis for his highlights, the embarrassed player had to run home before returning to Berea, Ohio with some film for Farmer — or one of his underlings — to watch. (You can see some of it on his Instagram page.)
Nice gesture. Farmer or someone could have told the guy to scram, and who knows if anyone will watch Gaddis or if he’ll ever get a shot. But if he does, it would be a great story.
