The station reported Reyes grabbed his wife by the throat and shoved her into a sliding glass door in their room at the Four Seasons Hualalai. His wife told police she had injuries to her thigh, neck and wrist. She was taken to local emergency room.
Reyes was traded from Toronto to Colorado this season as part of a deal that sent Troy Tulowitzki to the Blue Jays. The team has not commented on the report. Reyes is under contract through the 2017 season.
Reyes could be the first player in Major League Baseball to face discipline under the new domestic violence policy adopted in August and agreed to by the players’ union.

The new policy was put in place following a year of troubling headlines in the NFL involving domestic violence cases. Prior to the policy being adopted, MLB had no history to speak of when it came to disciplining players involved in domestic violence cases.
Under the policy, the commissioner has the authority to deliver whatever punishment he deems fit on a case-by-case basis with no maximum or minimum standards or previous precedents to consider. View the entire policy here.
The policy also calls for education for players on domestic violence, sexual assault and child abuse at regular intervals and the creation of a 24-hour hotline for players and their families. It also created a joint policy board that would evaluate and supervise the treatment of players.
