Relive the DeAndre Jordan saga through the plaintive wail of Phil Collins
Wednesday’s meeting between the Los Angeles Clippers and Dallas Mavericks isn’t the first of the 2015-16 campaign. (The Clips won that one, handily, on the third night of the season.) It is, however, the first one in Dallas since the summertime saga that saw DeAndre Jordan agree to leave L.A. and join the Mavericks before having Snapchat-broadcast second thoughts, touching off a tug of war that included social media shenanigans, a nearly unprecedented first-person fight for the center’s services, and an eventual return to the Clippers.
The dramatic back-and-forth ended with Doc Rivers’ club restored to full strength and both Mavericks owner Mark Cuban and forward Chandler Parsons feeling jilted and disrespected. It also resulted in awkward attempts at after-the-fact resolution and Cuban’s insistence that he’s definitely not mad at Jordan, not even a little bit, no sir!

As such, there’s quite a bit of anticipation for Wednesday’s nationally televised contest from American Airlines Center. ESPN would like to prepare you for the titanic tilt with this epic hype video soundtracked by the senses-shattering, pulse-pounding music of … Phil Collins.
As someone who also favors ex-Genesis-member-themed DeAndre/Clippers/Mavericks jokes, I offer a tip of my cap to the folks behind this “Against All Odds”-backed promo spot, which ramps up Jordan’s glee and Cuban’s angst to the cartoonish levels most appropriate for this entire endeavor. All it’s missing, really, is emojis. (And hey, while we’re here, go listen to the Postal Sevice cover of this song, which I like.)

With such a monstrous matchup on deck, Rivers sure seems to be very concerned about the hostile environment his team’s about to enter.
“They’re going to boo louder, I guess,” he said after Monday’s sort of ludicrous victory over the Memphis Grizzlies, according to Beth Harris of The Associated Press.
You can really feel the emotional intensity.
