Kevin Durant out for 2nd half of Thunder-Wizards with hamstring injury
Kevin Durant’s highly anticipated trip to his hometown was cut short Tuesday due to injury. The Oklahoma City Thunder superstar injured his left hamstring late in the second quarter on a drive to the basket on Washington Wizards forward Kris Humphries and was ruled out at halftime. The D.C. native’s return carried great interest as his only visit to the city prior to his pending unrestricted free agency this summer.

Durant remained in the game and hit both free throws as part of a stellar first half that included 14 points (4-of-8 FG), 10 rebounds, and four assists. OKC dominated proceedings and led 68-50 at the break. Veteran role player Kyle Singler took Durant’s spot on the court to start the second half.

Speculation over Durant’s free-agent future dominated the run-up to Tuesday’s game, with the 2014 MVP going so far as to claim that Wizards fans hoping to cheer him into joining the club were showing disrespect. That statement could have led to the relatively quiet atmosphere at the Verizon Center and a small contingent of fans determined to make KD feel unwelcomed:
