Ales Hemsky boards Jonathan Ericsson; discipline coming? (Video)
Jonathan Ericsson of the Detroit Red Wings had plenty of reason to be mad at Dallas Stars forward Ales Hemsky in the third period.
First, Ericsson was boarded by Hemsky via a very bad hit. To matters worse, the officials only penalized the Red Wings defenseman because he retaliated, while Hemsky skated free.
There’s a really, really, really good chance Hemsky gets a talking to from the Department of Player Safety. His skates don’t leave the ice during the hit; no, instead they’re off the ice as he launches himself into Ericsson.

Red Wings coach Jeff Blashill wouldn’t comment after the game, but Henrik Zetterberg said, via the Detroit Free Press, ”That was kind of weird. He (the official) said he saw the whole thing, I don’t know if he saw something different than what we saw. It looked like a hit to the head and then we end up in the box.”
Given his lack of a discpline history, it’s hard to say whether he’ll sit for a game or two or or receive a fine, but something certainly should be coming Hemsky’s way.
Dallas would score twice in the final 1:08 to win the game 4-1.
