Weekend Weather: Weather: Week 9 Forecasts
The late-week band of wet weather sweeping across the Eastern half of the United States will be gone by the time Sunday NFL kickoffs arrive, leaving most of the Week 9 slate in good standing with Mother Nature. The Southwest and Southeast will see some precipitation on Sunday and Monday however, which will impact a few games this weekend. Despite the expected rain in the corners of the country, wind won’t be a significant factor this week for most of the NFL and temperatures will remain reasonable considering the calendar has now flipped to November. Let’s take a quick spin through Week 9 weather forecasts around the NFL to see what the elements have in store for the weekend.
Worth Watching
The four games below have the most notable projected weather for Week 9 and are worth keeping an eye on as Sunday approaches.
St. Louis at Minnesota (1:00 PM ET): Sunny skies will welcome the St. Louis Rams to Minnesota on Sunday, with temperatures of 58 degrees present at kickoff. The only concern in this matchup is wind interference, with 18 mph gusts expected on Sunday. Both passing games should be able to survive these conditions, but both Blair Walsh and Greg Zuerlein should be downgraded in the fantasy kicking game.
New York Giants at Tampa Bay (4:05 PM ET): Thunderstorms will be the main concern when the Buccaneers and Giants square off on Sunday, making this game worth monitoring. Thankfully, wind will not be a factor during this game, with just 10 mph winds expected during the storms. Temperatures will be around 72 degrees as this game kicks off in the late afternoon, with an 80% chance of rain and thunderstorms likely to be in the picture. Give both passing games a slight downgrade in this game, as both squads will likely look to focus on the ground game if conditions get too soggy. Precipitation is not a death sentence for NFL passing games however, so the conditions in Tampa should be monitored but won’t require any drastic lineup changes.
Atlanta at San Francisco (4:05 PM ET): The Blaine Gabbert show will kick off in San Francisco this week when the 49ers host the visiting Atlanta Falcons. Temperatures will sit near 60 degrees on Sunday for this game, with a chance of light rain in the afternoon. With wind out of the picture and precipitation expected to be light, no major adjustments need to be made to the fantasy options in this game, but be aware that rain may make an appearance during this game.
Chicago at San Diego (8:30 PM ET, Mon): San Diego willenjoy comfortable weather during the day on Monday, but clouds and rain showers are expected to move into the area in the evening as the Chargers host the Chicago Bears. Winds will be manageable at 12 mph, and with the chance of rain at just 40 percent, no serious alterations to Chargers or Bears fantasy options are necessary.
Worry-Free Weather
Forecasts for the following five games should give fantasy owners no reason to worry as Sunday approaches.
Green Bay at Carolina (1:00 PM ET): The Green Bay Packers will look to bounce back from a rough performance against Denver last week as they travel to Bank of America Stadium to take on the Carolina Panthers. Conditions won’t be much of a worry as this game kicks off, with 59 degree temperatures and partly cloudy skies making an appearance on Sunday. All necessary fantasy options from this game can be started according to plan.
Washington at New England (1:00 PM ET): New England, the NFL’s highest scoring offense, will take the field on Sunday under sunny skies with temperatures hovering around 55 degrees. Wind won’t be a concern in this game, so all the usual fantasy suspects in this contest can be started with confidence.
Miami at Buffalo (1:00 PM ET): Temperatures are beginning to fall in Buffalo, as the high on Sunday when they Bills host the Miami Dolphins will be 47 degrees. No weather concerns in this game, as mostly sunny skies and just 10 mph winds won’t impact any fantasy options in this matchup.
Jacksonville at New York Jets (1:00 PM ET): Sunny skies will welcome Blake Bortles and the Jacksonville Jaguars to MetLife Stadium on Sunday, and temperatures will be comfortable at around 60 degrees. Wind will not play a factor in this game, so fantasy owners will have nothing to worry about when sliding Jets or Jaguars players into Sunday lineups.
Oakland at Pittsburgh (1:00 PM ET): Heinz Field will experience crisp conditions on Sunday as the Steelers play their first game since losing star running back Le’Veon Bell. Sunny skies will be present with temperatures sitting at 55 degrees when this game kicks off between Pittsburgh and Oakland, and winds will be insignificant. Feel free to start all Raiders and Steelers fantasy options as normal.
Home Teams Are Dome Teams
Three games will be played in domes or stadiums with retractable roofs in Week 9, including Peyton Manning returning to his old stomping grounds when the Indianapolis Colts host the Denver Broncos.
