Report: Heat’s Gerald Green released from hospital, back home
Miami Heat swingman Gerald Green has been discharged from the hospital, three days after being admitted for an as-yet undisclosed reason, and is back home at his condominium, Miami ABC affiliate WPLG-TV reported Saturday.

Green, 29, missed Miami’s 98-92 loss to the Atlanta Hawks on Tuesday with what the Heat termed an “illness.” The team confirmed Wednesday that Green had been “admitted into the hospital,” but offered “no further comment at this time” as to what prompted his admission.
Miami police were called to Green’s home on Wednesday morning “because there was a ‘male down,'” according to Manny Navarro of the Miami Herald. Miami-Dade Fire and Rescue reportedly requested assistance due to a “combative patient” at the address where Green lives. Nobody was arrested in the matter. Despite earlier reports that Green had been “acting strange” and “screaming” before being taken to the hospital, multiple outlets reported that the 911 call made in connection to the incident indicated only that he was passed out, bleeding and breathing.
Heat point guard Mario Chalmers, who lives in the same condo building as Green near AmericanAirlines Arena, the Heat’s home gym, rode in the ambulance with Green to the hospital, but said Thursday he “didn’t know what was going on” with Green that prompted the call for help.
“I was just trying to be there for him and trying to figure out what was going on,” Chalmers said. “It was very concerning just for him, more so about him than me.”
On Thursday, prior to Miami’s 96-84 road win over the Minnesota Timberwolves, Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra said “the only comment we’ll make other than what we made yesterday is that we’re grateful that he’s safe and healthy right now. Our thoughts are with him and his family.” The Heat “declined comment on WPLG’s report The Heat declined comment and offered no update” on Green’s condition, according to Ira Winderman of the South Florida Sun Sentinel. A team spokesman said Thursday that “the organization would not be notifying the media if and when Green was released from the hospital,” according to Navarro.

Green has played for eight teams in NBA seasons after the Boston Celtics selected him straight out of high school in the first round of the 2005 NBA draft, and spent the 2008-09 and 2009-10 campaigns playing in Russia and China. He joined the Heat this summer on a one-year contract for the veteran’s minimum. He’s averaging 10.3 points in 21.7 minutes per game in three appearances for Erik Spoelstra’s club. It remains unclear when Green might rejoin the Heat.
