Labor day? Wife of Steelers’ Cam Heyward due on Sunday, with Pittsburgh set to host Oakland
As any parent will tell you, there’s no way to predict when a baby will make its arrival. Sure, you’re given a due date, but relatively few women give birth on that actual day.
Steelers’ defensive end Cam Heyward is hoping his wife Allie is not in that minority.
Heyward, Pittsburgh’s young star, and Allie will soon become parents to their first chid, and the due date is this Sunday. The Steelers host the Raiders on Sunday, and Heyward intimated this week that if Allie is in labor, he’ll choose being by his wife’s side over being in uniform.
“I haven’t even thought about it that way,” Heyward said. “I would love to be there for my son and I want to be there for the first time he comes into the world. I don’t think it will come to that (having the baby Sunday). I have my fingers crossed that the baby comes sooner rather than later.”
With Stephon Tuitt injured and possibly not playing this week, the Steelers would be thin at end if Heyward isn’t with the team, and would likely be asking one of their defensive tackles to bump out to cover the position.

Heyward, who signed a $59 million contract extension before this season, has five quarterback hits, three sacks, a pass break-up and forced fumble so far this season.
He also has run afoul of the NFL, which has fined him for wearing “Iron Head” on his eye black in honor of his father, Craig “Ironhead” Heyward, who died of cancer in 2006.
