Tyler Seguin dominates Bruins with hat trick (Video)
When Dallas Stars forward Tyler Seguin faces the Boston Bruins, the match up generally has extra significance.
The Bruins traded Seguin to Dallas over two years ago and the hockey world has since watched the young forward blossom into one of the NHL’s elite scorers.
All of his skills were on display against his former team on Tuesday night. Seguin scored a hat trick in a 5-3 Stars win at Boston.
Not only did Seguin pot three goals, he also made a young fan’s night by giving her a puck as a Sweet-16 gift.
Said Seguin according to the Dallas Morning News:
I mean it’s kind of like playing in Toronto, when you’re going home there it’s special, and I think when you play your old team, it’s special as well. You have still current friends on the other team, so there’s a fine line between them being your friend and them being the enemy for the night. But again, you’re happy with those two points tonight.
During the night, Seguin was booed by the Bruins fans. Instead of letting it bother him, he used it as motivation.
“You don’t know how they’re going to be. I find sometimes when you’re getting booed it makes you play better. I mean I get booed in Winnipeg, where I have no idea why, but it gives you a little more jump in your step.”
Seguin faced questions about whether he had changed since the trade from Boston.
Look at my beard. [Laughs] I think it’s just about becoming a pro even more. I’ve been asked to mature on the ice and mature as a leader. It’s a young team in here, and right when I stepped in I had the opportunity to be a leader and first line center, and I’ve tried to grasp that and run with it since day one.
Below are the highlights from Seguin’s hat trick.
Seguin and teammate Jamie Benn lead the NHL with 20 points each. Loui Eriksson, the central piece the Bruins acquired from Dallas in the Seguin deal, scored two goals Tuesday and has 11 points on the season. Since the trade, Eriksson has notched highs of 47 points and 22 goals. His last full season with Dallas he had 71 points.
Seguin had 84 points in his first full season with Dallas and 77 points in 71 games last year.
