Brett Lawrie crushes egg with sweet swing while riding a Phunkee Duck
What’s Brett Lawrie of the Oakland Athletics up to during his offseason?
He’s just riding around on his PhunkeeDuck and practicing his swing by crushing eggs all over his neighborhood, that’s all. Or at least that’s the impression we got from the video he posted to Instagram on Wednesday.
Don’t worry, Lawrie’s not out here trying to cause trouble. There’s an actual method to his apparent madness. He’s trying to help raise awareness and money for breast cancer research.
Here’s a snippet from his Instagram caption:
Join @phunkeeduck and I in the quest to end #breastcancer by cracking an egg in your own creative manner for your chance to win a PhunkeeDuck. Make sure when you post your video that you tag myself, PhunkeeDuck, use #PhunkCancer & follow @PhunkeeDuck to be eligible to win.
There’s also a hashtag in there that use a derogatory term toward cancer. We can’t mention it, but we’re sure you can probably guess.
Like the Ice Bucket Challenge, which raises awareness for ALS, this appears to be a running challenge. We’re not sure it will catch on quite to that degree, but we are sure that people will be anxious to break some eggs. In fact, many of them may not wait to be challenged, so we suggest parking the car in the garage if you can and looking both ways when you leave the house.
It could be harmless and fun exercise though if people stay creative and don’t use it as an excuse to pelt someone. Lawrie sets the pace well with his exhibition of hand-eye coordination, so hopefully others follow his lead.
As for those unfamiliar with the Phunkee Duck, it’s a means of transportation similar to that of a Segway scooter. It’s described by CNBC as more “sleek and stylish” than the Segway, and it’s noted that in addition to Lawrie, athletes like Adrian Peterson often use it to get around.
That’s great and all, but I won’t be sold until they get an endorsement from renowned scooter rider Hunter Pence.
In all seriousness, they’re doing a good job to raise awareness and money for cancer research. In fact, during the month of October five percent of all sales of Phunkee Ducks using the promo code “PhunkCancer” will be donated. We applaud that, and we encourage all to break an egg for a good cause.
