Mike Babcock to lead Canada at 2016 World Cup of Hockey: Report
When Team Canada takes the ice next September for the 2016 World Cup of Hockey they’ll have a very familiar face behind the bench.
According to TSN’s Darren Dreger, Toronto Maple Leafs head coach Mike Babcock will guide Canada’s entry into the revived tournament. An official announcement is expected on Thursday. Joel Quenneville of the Chicago Blackhawks and Claude Julien of the Boston Bruins reportedly will be his assistants.
Babcock is no stranger to guiding Team Canada, having won gold at the 2010 and 2014 Winter Olympics and the 2004 World Championships. He’s currently the only coach who has earned entry into the IIHF’s Triple Gold Club with Olympic and World Championships gold and a Stanley Cup.

The 17-day tournament which will run from Sept. 17-Oct. 1 will see Canada in a group with the U.S., Czech Republic and Team Europe. All games will take place at Air Canada Centre.
