NHL suspends Senators’ Mark Stone two games for head check
The two-minute minor for an illegal check to the head on Landon Ferraro of the Detroit Red Wings given to Mark Stone wasn’t the only punishment the Ottawa Senators forward received.
The NHL’s Department of Player Safety had Stone on the line for a hearing Monday and later handed him a two-game ban, as Patrick Burke explains.

Stone will lose $37,634.40 in salary and miss out on Ottawa’s games this week versus the Montreal Canadiens and Winnipeg Jets.
After the Senators’ 5-3 loss, Stone tried to explain the hit.
“I think I was leaning for the puck and when he got around me I knew he was going to get around me and it was just one of those bad instinct plays by me and it’s something I’m not proud of,” said Stone via the Ottawa Sun. “I’m glad he’s okay.”
Ferraro left the game for a short while before returning.
“It’s scary,” said Ferraro, via MLive.com. “Whether he meant to or not, I don’t think he tried to, but that’s what we’re trying to get out of the game. It’s scary, but I’m all right.”
