Utah DT Seni Fauonuku performed CPR to save a man’s life
Utah defensive tackle Seni Fauonuku helped save a man’s life at a Salt Lake City apartment complex recently.
Fauonuku was playing video games with teammates at one of his teammates’ apartments. Someone knocked on the door after they heard something outside. After the group was told of someone needing assistance in a neighboring apartment, Fauonuku sprang into action.
“So I dropped down to my knees, starting giving him CPR,” he said. “I was doing it for probably about two minutes and like no response, nothing — the pulse was gone.”
Fauonuku, though, didn’t give up.
“I did like another two rounds of chest compressions and then all of a sudden he coughed — his eyes rolled back and the color starting coming back to his face,” he said. “And then as soon as that happened, that’s when the paramedics showed up.”
The man was in a recliner, and according to the News, had apparently overdosed.

Fauonuku, who has 16 tackles in 2015, has had to perform CPR in a real-life situation before. He did it on his 18-month-old nephew a “couple” of years ago. It was unfortunately unsuccessful. His nephew died.
He said he learned how to do CPR from his mother. She’s a nurse.
“For as long as I can remember my mom’s been a nurse and I’ve seen her save a couple of people’s lives,” he said. “She taught me how to do all that stuff.”
If you’re not certified in CPR, it doesn’t take long to learn the basics. You can take a class provided by a local educational institution or government agency and become certified in a day for about $50. Like Fanuonuku learned, you never know when you may need it to save someone’s life.
