One-win Ducks fall to Blues on fluke own goal
The Anaheim Ducks just can’t find a way to win. (USATSI)
Maybe the Anaheim Ducks just aren’t supposed to win this season.
They fell to 1-7-2 on the season with a 2-1 loss in St. Louis on Thursday night in another game where their offense failed to score more than two goals.
Even more frustrating for the Ducks is that it’s the second game in a row where they scored first and were not able to hold on for a win. After a defensive breakdown led to a Vladimir Tarasenko goal on a two-on-none rush to tie the game for the Blues in the second period, they went ahead in the third period when rookie defenseman Colton Parayko scored a goal on a shot that didn’t even hit the net.
After the Blues won an offensive zone faceoff, Parayko fired a shot wide of Ducks goalie Frederik Andersen that bounced off the boards and then kicked off of Andersen’s skate into the back of the net.
That’s just brutal luck, not only for the Ducks, but also Andersen who has been the lone bright spot on the team this season. After Thursday’s game he now has a .936 save percentage on the season, stopping 220 of the 236 shots he’s faced.
And he has yet to win a game this season.
The Ducks have scored just 10 goals in seven games and have managed to score more than one goal in a single game just twice.
