Arkansas sharpshooter sinks 27 threes in 60 seconds
Dusty Hannahs didn’t wait until his Arkansas debut next month to show why he is known as an elite outside shooter.
The Texas Tech transfer sank 27 threes in 60 seconds in a video released Thursday by the Razorback Sports Network.
Arkansas appears convinced that Hannahs broke a Guiness world record with his shooting display, however, a close examination suggests that’s unlikely to be true. Though record holder Dan Loriaux knocked down only 25 threes in a minute in May 2007, all his attempts appear to have come from behind the NBA 3-point line (23 feet, 9 inches) rather than the college one (20 feet, 9 inches).
World record or not, Arkansas would gladly take that caliber of outside shooting from Hannah. The 6-foot-3 Little Rock native was a prolific in high school and sank over 90 percent of his free throws his final year at Texas Tech, but he was only adequate from behind the arc, hitting 36.9 percent of his threes both as a freshman and a sophomore.
Hannahs should get plenty of chances to shoot this year for an undermanned Arkansas team in desperate need of scorers. The Razorbacks won 27 games last season, but expectations are far lower this year after stars Bobby Portis and Michael Qualls both entered the NBA draft, three other players were arrested on allegations of using counterfeit money and top recruit Ted Kapita failed to qualify.
