North Carolina defeated Pitt 26-19 to sit atop the ACC Coastal
North Carolina is now alone at the top of the ACC Coastal Division.
The Tar Heels defeated Pitt 26-19 to move to 4-0 in ACC play and hand the Panthers their first conference loss of the season.
UNC quarterback Marquise Williams completed 14 of 23 passes for 270 yards and two touchdowns and added another 52 yards rushing to lead the Tar Heels to their sixth consecutive win.
This North Carolina team has rebounded nicely since a season-opening loss to South Carolina and now appears in control of its chances to play in the ACC title game.
Pitt had been living on the edge in the past two weeks with game-winning field goals against Georgia Tech and Syracuse to remain undefeated in conference play. Pitt had some nice drives throughout Thursday night’s game, but once the Panthers got into the red zone, the drives would stall and the panthers would have to settle for field goals.
Meanwhile, Williams eluded Pitt’s pass rush, created time with his feet and made several key throws downfield to keep plays alive or score touchdowns.
While North Carolina is in first in the division, Duke is nipping at it heels. The Blue Devils, which also are undefeated in conference play, face Miami this weekend. North Carolina will travel to Duke on Nov. 14.
