Lukaku to join PSG? Arsenal eye Higuain
The winter window gets closer with each passing day and the transfer rumour mill is starting to pick up steam. As always, Transfer Talk has the latest and greatest. See all the summer deals here.
TOP STORY: Romelu Lukaku up for sale?
Odd story via the Liverpool Echo involving Everton, Roberto Martinez and 22-year-old Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku. According to Lukaku’s agent, Mino Raiola, Everton are willing to sell their prize forward if a decent offer is tabled in the coming window.
Said Raiola to Get French Football News: “Lukaku to PSG? We had a discussion with Martinez, he said he would let him leave Everton if a good offer comes in. But talking about the transfer window now makes no sense.”
Idle agent talk or the real deal? Watch this space. It’s probably better for Everton to have the player, who has five goals and two assists in the Premier League this season, than whatever money they could command for the player, but this is the chaotic wonder of the transfer window.
There were rumours last weekend that Paris Saint-Germain were considering a €40m offer for January, but we’ll believe it when we see Lukaku holding up a new shirt or scarf or merrily holding a pen near a piece of paper.
Groundhog Day involving Arsenal, Higuain
Stop us if you’ve heard this one before: Tutto Mercato Web is reporting that Gonzalo Higuain is Arsenal’s top, top, top transfer target for the January transfer window. Weird, right?
According to the Italian media outlet, Arsene Wenger & Co. are committed to finally snagging the 27-year-old striker, whose release clause at Napoli is currently set at an eye-popping €94 million. To be fair, the Argentine forward is doing well in Serie A so far this season, with eight goals and two assists in 10 matches. But we can’t see this coming to fruition… or can we?
Mourinho down to final chance?
It’s desperate days for Jose Mourinho at Stamford Bridge, according to the Sun. The outlet are reporting that the Portuguese boss is one bad loss (ahem, to Liverpool this weekend) from being relieved of his duties at Chelsea.

The rumours that Carlo Ancelotti was waiting in the wings to take over for the Special One have been largely debunked. However, here are the cold, hard facts: Chelsea are 15th in the Premier League and were just knocked out of the Capital One Cup on penalties by Stoke City.
What happens if Jurgen Klopp strolls into the Bridge and leads Liverpool to a win? We’ll be watching, for sure.

Tap-ins
– You have to love those ubiquitous “reports.” This one, via the South Wales Evening Post, reckon that Swansea City are set to make a move for out-of-favour Tottenham winger Andros Townsend. Remember when he was England’s next big thing? Us too. Just about.
– Newcastle United defender Mike Williamson is expected to complete a loan move to Wolves in the next 24 hours. It sounds like a big victory for the 31-year-old defender who is getting no playing time for the struggling Magpies.
– Bayer Leverkusen have confirmed they have received several enquiries for reported Manchester United target Hakan Calhanoglu. The 21-year-old has established himself as one of the best young talents in the Bundesliga in recent seasons, and the free-kick specialist has scored 18 goals in 63 games in all competitions for Leverkusen.
