Father of Royals' Volquez dies on day of Game 1
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Royals‘ starting pitcher for Game 1 of the 2015 World Series against the Mets is Edinson Volquez and multiple outlets, including The Associated Press and Enrique Rojas of ESPN Deportes report that his father, Daniel Volquez, died Tuesday at the age of 63 in the Dominican Republic. CBS Sports MLB Insider Jon Heyman has confirmed those reports.
The story is still developing and there are conflicting reports as to whether or not Volquez was informed of his father’s death prior to his start. We will have more on this story as it develops.
As for Fox not reporting the death during the broadcast, here’s Ken Rosenthal:
Fox Sports is aware of the news about the death of Edinson Volquez’s father but do not plan to report it on broadcast while he is in game.
