Alcides Escobar hits inside-the-park homer to start Game 1 for Royals
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — It didn’t take long for Kauffman Stadium to erupt and it didn’t take long for the Royals to show what makes them a dangerous team.
Alcides Escobar led off the bottom of the first inning for the Royals with an inside-the-park home run — a perfect example of what the Royals do. Hit the ball hard, into gaps and run fast. Escobar was aided by a clumsy outfield pursuit by the New York Mets’ Yoenis Cespedes and Michael Conforto. It appeared they miscommunicated before Cespedes flung out a back-hand attempt to catch the ball.

He didn’t and Escobar motored around the bases in 15 seconds, at a speed of 20 mph. Wowzers. That is indeed what speed do. According to Elias Sports Bureau, Escobar is the first player to hit an inside-the-park homer in Game 1 of the World Series since 1923 when Casey Stengel did it.
Escobar, as he usually does, swung at the first pitch from Mets starter Matt Harvey. Not only did the homer give the Royals an early lead, but it made for some good photos.
One pitch to the Royals, one run. If you missed the first Royals batter in this case, you missed a lot. Just ask the Kansas City fans whose Google Fiber TV went out.
