NHL Three Stars: Toews plays OT hero again; Halak blanks Flames
No. 1 Stars: Jonathan Toews / Corey Crawford, Chicago Blackhawks
Toews scored his second consecutive overtime winner as the Blackhawks shutout the reeling Anaheim Ducks 1-0. Corey Crawford made 39 saves for his second straight shutout and 14th of his career.
No. 2 Star: Jaroslav Halak, New York Islanders
Halak recorded his second shutout of the season and 38th of his career as the Islanders blanked the Calgary Flames 4-0. Through Halak’s 29 saves and a pair of goals from Frans Nielsen, New York helped hand the Flames their sixth loss in seven games. It was the netminder’s second shutout in three starts.
No. 3 Star: Kyle Chipchura, Arizona Coyotes
Chipchura had a goal and an assist helping the Coyotes to a 4-3 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs. When he scored his second goal of the year seven minutes into the third period, Arizona had a 4-1 lead, but the Leafs clawed back before falling just short of tying the game. The Coyotes are now 5-3-1 on the season.
Honorable Mention: Having now killed 21 straight power plays the Islanders possess the NHL’s best penalty kill with a 91.2-percent success rate … Max Domi’s teammates had some pre-game fun with the rookie as he returned to Air Canada Centre … According to the NHL, Shane Doan’s power play goal was the 114th of his career, which ties Keith Tkachuk for second all-time in Coyotes franchise history.
