BEST BETS
Moore: Warriors (-9.5) over Pelicans. It’s banner night, the Pelicans are banged up, and the Warriors are nigh unstoppable at Roaracle. Anthony Davis is a monster, but Draymond Green may be the best defensive player in the league, and the Warriors are just too good. Dubs roll.
Harper: Pistons (+7) over Hawks: I believe the Hawks will be a terror to deal with on a nightly basis because their system and commitment to the system are impossible to deal with on random NBA nights. But the Pistons are relatively talented, we love what they do with Andre Drummond and four shooters around him, and if the Hawks win I just don’t see this being a blowout. Detroit has big time defensive problems, but the Hawks are still trying to figure out how to replace everything DeMarre Carroll did for them.
Herbert: Warriors (-9.5) over Pelicans. It’s a big spread, but I like the Warriors over the Pelicans. The reasoning isn’t exactly complicated: it’s the best team in the league against a banged-up squad that’s trying to adjust to a new style of play. That style of play, by the way, is what Golden State perfected on its way to a title. It’s almost impossible to beat the Warriors at their own game.
The Warriors and Pelicans face off to open the season Tuesday. (USATSI)
