Fellow owner advises Jerry Jones: Drinking helps
A Cowboys season that began with great promise has devolved into one of disappointment, as Dallas has gone 0-4 since Tony Romo suffered a fractured clavicle in Week 2, an injury that followed Dez Bryant’s broken foot in Week 1.
After watching his team fall to the rival Giants 27-20 on Sunday, a loss that put the Cowboys in the NFC East basement, owner and general manager Jerry Jones said he received a little advice from a fellow owner.
“He said, ‘Drink a lot’,” Jones recalled. Jones added he didn’t take the advice, “but it was genuine advice. But nothing more serious than that I’ll assure you.”
Jones claimed he didn’t heed those words, but something was affecting him after the loss: he told reporters Romo will return for the Cowboys’ Week 10 game against Tampa Bay. But Romo is on injured reserve/designated to return, and since he was placed on that list after Week 2, by rule he can’t return until Week 11, when Dallas plays in Miami.
Dallas was 12-4 and in the playoffs last season, but while the division-leading Giants aren’t running away with the East at 4-3, they now have a head-to-head win over the Cowboys, which tips things further in their favor.
“It’s daunting what we’re facing here,” Jones said. “We need to get in here and win some ballgames to get us in better contention as we get guys back and of course we know we got all the challenge in the world when we get guys back. We’ve dug ourselves a real challenge.”
