DraftKings daily fantasy value picks for Oct. 26 – NHL.com
Each day during the 2015-16 season, NHL.com’s fantasy staff will identify one player at each position worth owning in DraftKings daily fantasy hockey contests. Based on factors including but not limited to matchups, line combinations, power-play usage, statistical coverage and recent production, we’ll provide you with lower-priced options that can help you build a winning lineup.
Players accumulate points in DraftKings for each goal (3 points), assist (2), shot on goal (0.5), blocked shot (0.5) and shootout goal (0.2). Bonuses are given for shorthanded points (1) and hat tricks (1.5). Goalies accumulate points for each win (3) and save (0.2), and lose a point for each goal allowed. Goalie bonuses are given for a shutout (2) where the goalie completes the entire game with no goals allowed in regulation (and overtime, if applicable). Shootout goals will not prevent a shutout, and goalies will receive points for any goals or assists they score in a game. Penalty minutes, hits, plus-minus and PP points DO NOT count in DraftKings. DraftKings lineups must include nine players (2 C, 3 W, 2 D, 1 G, 1 FLEX) and fit within the $50,000 salary cap.
Martin Hanzal, C, Arizona Coyotes
DraftKings price: $4,200
Hanzal has been an assists machine as the center for the Coyotes’ top line this season, which has seen Hanzal skating between rookie forwards Max Domi and Anthony Duclair. Hanzal has at least one assist in six of eight games, and hasn’t gone more than one game this season without one. According to that pattern, he should be due Monday when the Coyotes play the Toronto Maple Leafs (7:30 p.m. ET; TVA Sports); he was held off the score sheet in a 4-1 win at the Ottawa Senators on Saturday. All signs point to Hanzal contributing to the scoring Monday; seven of his nine assists this season have been on the road. And in eight career games against the Maple Leafs he has five goals, five assists, five blocked shots and 29 shots on goal.
Anthony Duclair, W, Arizona Coyotes
DraftKings price: $4,100
Choosing linemates in a DraftKings contest can be risky as at least two roster spots may come up empty if that line does not have a strong showing. But the flip side is that the points can add up if that line performs well. Duclair and Hanzal are the third-best point pair in the NHL entering play Monday with six goals in which each player records a point. At such an affordable price, DraftKings owners should take the chance on Duclair, who is tied for the lead among NHL rookies with five goals in eight games.
Johnny Boychuk, D, New York Islanders
DraftKings price: $5,100
Boychuk is a well-rounded defenseman in DraftKings; he is third in the NHL with 28 shots on goal, tied for fifth with 21 blocked shots and is a viable threat to chip in with a goal or assist at any time. Boychuk has all his points at home this season with one goal and three assists in five games at Barclays Center. While Boychuk is the second-most expensive defenseman on a three-game Monday, he should prove a worthy selection as the Calgary Flames visit Brooklyn.
Corey Crawford or Scott Darling, G, Chicago Blackhawks
DraftKings price: $7,300 (Crawford) or $6,700 (Darling)
The Blackhawks’ opponent Monday, the Anaheim Ducks (8:30 p.m. ET; NHLN), have a roster that eventually should find its stride. But currently it’s at the bottom of the League with an average of 0.86 goals per game in seven games this season. DraftKings contestants can wait until any point before 8:30 pm ET to see who coach Joel Quenneville chooses as his starting goalie. But even Crawford, the most expensive goalie Monday, should provide value considering Anaheim’s offensive struggles.
