NHL Three Stars: Ward and Boedker score three; Price keeps Habs on record pace
No. 1 Star: Joel Ward, San Jose Sharks
Ward was mic’d up for San Jose’s game against the Carolina Hurricanes. Can’t wait to hear that audio. The brawny forward scored a hat trick in San Jose’s 5-2 win over the Hurricanes. The victory broke a three-game losing skid for the Sharks. Ward, who was signed in the offseason by San Jose, has five goals in his first eight games.
No. 2 Star: Mikkel Boedker, Arizona Coyotes
The Coyotes forward scored a hat trick in a 4-1 victory at the Ottawa Senators. The win was the Coyotes first at Ottawa since Dec. 12, 1998. Going into the game, the Coyotes had lost four win a row after winning three straight to start the season.
No. 3 Star: Carey Price, Montreal Canadiens
The reigning league MVP was superb once again stopping 49 of 52 Toronto Maple Leafs shots on goal (final score 5-3) to lead the Canadiens to their ninth-straight regulation win to start the season – an NHL record. Price has a 1.29 goal-against average and .961 save percentage in seven games this season.
