The Royals inspired one couple to name their newborn son ‘Royal’
The Kansas City Royals baby boom may have quieted, but the Royals are still inspiring parents to name their newborn children after the now back-to-back American League champions.
As we wrote in July, at least one Kansas City area hospital reported a notable increase in births during that month, which happened to come nine months after the Royals 2014 postseason run. We’ll safely assume that was no coincidence. The excitement and energy the Royals generated throughout the city was palpable, and in some instances perhaps even motivational.

Many of those newborns were also given names of Royals players, which confirmed the inspriation. And now one couple who recently welcomed a new son to the world have decided to give him the full Royal treatment.
Meet Royal Titus Overmyer.
He’s 12 days old now, according to WIBW in Kansas, and his mother, Audra Henry, says he’s set up to be a Royals fan for life.
“We love the name, it`s a cute, adorable name, and then we love our boys in blue of course,” Henry said.
Henry and her fiance grew up in the Kansas City-area. They’ve always been Royals fans.
‘It was the only name that me and my fiance could agree on,’ she said.
While Kendrys and Salvador apparently didn’t make the final list, we can’t argue with Royal at all. In fact, his full name, Royal Titus Overmyer, sounds very regal. It just fits.
As noted, Royal has been around for a little less than two weeks, but he’s already been witness to some very special moments in Royals history. That includes their remarkable comeback in ALDS Game 4, and now their second straight American League championship after they knocked off the Toronto Blue Jays.
Naturally, his mother thinks he’s a good luck charm. And she may be right. If Royal and his family celebrate a World Series championship this season, he will have experienced something in roughly three weeks that Royals fans born after Oct. 27, 1985 have been waiting their entire life to experience.
Perhaps it’s good luck, or perhaps Royal is just reminding us that timing is everything.
