Greenville Swamp Rabbits see victory, flying carrots in home opener (Photos)
When the Greenville Road Warriors announced they would be rebranded as the Swamp Rabbits in August their new logo vaulted to the top of the list of best in hockey sports. An angry rabbit in hockey gear holding a carrot stick? Good luck topping that.
On Friday, the Swamp Rabbits won their home opener versus the South Carolina Stingrays 5-3. Ryan Rashid scored Greenville’s fifth goal of the game via a power play, and that’s when the fans inside Bon Secours Wellness Arena let the carrots fly to the ice.

According to Sarah, there was a brief carrot-related stoppage after Jack Combs scored the Swamp Rabbits’ first goal of the night, but Rashid’s tally prompted the longer vegetable delay.
Rashid’s goal was his first of the game, not one capping off a hat trick where you’d expect hats to be tossed to the ice. But that didn’t matter. The Swamp Rabbits had their first win of the season pretty much wrapped up at that point; might as well put those carrots — which were supposedly for a post-game “special moment,” per the Greenville News — to good use.

And of course, any fans holding leftover carrots promptly used them to celebrate Greenville’s first win of the year.
