DraftKings daily fantasy value picks for Oct. 24 – NHL.com
Each day during the 2015-16 season, NHL.com’s fantasy staff will identify one player at each position worth owning in DraftKings daily fantasy hockey contests. Based on factors including but not limited to matchups, line combinations, power-play usage, statistical coverage and recent production, we’ll provide you with lower-priced options that can help you build a winning lineup.
Players accumulate points in DraftKings for each goal (3 points), assist (2), shot on goal (0.5), blocked shot (0.5) and shootout goal (0.2). Bonuses are given for shorthanded points (1) and hat tricks (1.5). Goalies accumulate points for each win (3) and save (0.2), and lose a point for each goal allowed. Goalie bonuses are given for a shutout (2) where the goalie completes the entire game with no goals allowed in regulation (and overtime, if applicable). Shootout goals will not prevent a shutout, and goalies will receive points for any goals or assists they score in a game. Penalty minutes, hits, plus-minus and PP points DO NOT count in DraftKings. DraftKings lineups must include nine players (2 C, 3 W, 2 D, 1 G, 1 FLEX) and fit within the $50,000 salary cap.
Mika Zibanejad, C, Ottawa Senators
DraftKings price: $4,400
The scoring has been well balanced for the Senators this season and Zibanejad is doing his part with two goals, five assists, two blocked shots and 18 shots on goal over seven games. Zibanejad has two multi-point games this season, including a shorthanded goal, assist and five shots on goal in a 5-4 loss at home Thursday against the New Jersey Devils. The Senators host the Arizona Coyotes on Saturday who are in the midst of a four-game losing streak and have given up four goals per game over that span. Zibanejad has been great against the Coyotes in his career with a goal, three assists and five shots on goal in two games.
Brendan Gallagher, W, Montreal Canadiens
DraftKings price: $5,300
The Canadiens are the only undefeated team in the NHL and lead the League with 30 goals in eight games. Gallagher is averaging a point per game with three goals and five assists in those eight games and has also been racking up the DraftKings points with two blocked shots and 25 shots on goal. The top-line right wing has done well against the Toronto Maple Leafs, Montreal’s opponent Saturday, with five goals, four assists, 10 blocked shots and 45 shots on goal in 14 career games.
Marc-Edouard Vlasic, D, San Jose Sharks
DraftKings price: $3,600
With a busy Saturday night, it’s recommended to take the risk on one or two extreme lower-priced players with favorable matchups to free up your budget to select a few top-tier options. Vlasic hasn’t registered a point since he had two assists in a season-opening 5-1 win at the Los Angeles Kings on Oct. 7 but he still chips in with a couple of DraftKings points per game based on his average of 1.42 blocked shots and two shots on goal. Vlasic has been solid against the Carolina Hurricanes, who visit Saturday, with three goals, one assist, 11 blocked shots and 20 shots on goal in eight career games.
Cory Schneider, G, New Jersey Devils
DraftKings price: $6,800
Schneider is one of the biggest goaltender bargains Saturday as he is in the midst of a four-game unbeaten streak with three consecutive wins, a 2.00 goals-against average and 112 saves (on 120 shots) over that span. The Devils visit the Buffalo Sabres on Saturday who are 26th in the NHL with an average of 1.85 goals scored per game. Schneider has played in a lot of close games in his career against the Sabres with a 3-2-2 record, 1.53 goals-against average and 155 saves (on 166 shots) over seven games.
