Blues' Schwartz out 12 weeks with broken ankle
The injuries keep coming for the St. Louis Blues.
The team announced on Saturday morning that forward Jaden Schwartz will be sidelined for at least the next 12 weeks due to a fractured ankle that he suffered in practice on Friday during a warmup drill.
A first-round pick (No. 14 overall) by the Blues in 2010, Schwartz has developed into one of the team’s better forwards and is coming off of back-to-back seasons that saw him score at least 25 goals and record 50 points. In seven games this season before the injury he had four assists.
St. Louis’ forward group has been hammered by injuries so far this season. Patrik Berglund was sidelined before the season even began due to shoulder surgery and is expected to be out until at least January. Then this past week Paul Stastny was sidelined for at least five weeks due to a broken foot.
When healthy the Blues have what is one of the deepest groups of forwards in the league, but between the injuries and the offseason trade of T.J. Oshie to Washington four of their top-eight scoring forwards from a year ago are not in their lineup at the moment.
