Congressman who lost bet sings ‘Meet the Mets’ on House floor
Here’s one sports bet between politicians that took things beyond than the usual trading of foods or wearing a rival team’s jersey. Congressman Adam Schiff (D-CA) — no, not the district attorney from “Law & Order” — had to sing “Meet the Mets” on the House floor Friday after losing a bet to Steve Israel (D-NY).

The two had bet on National League division series between the New York Mets and Los Angeles Dodgers, which the Mets won in five games. Their bet did actually involve food too, per the L.A. Times:
Rep. Steve Israel (D-N.Y.) will fly fresh bagels straight from the Big Apple to Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Burbank) if the Dodgers prevail. Schiff will send the New York lawmaker gourmet popcorn from Pauline’s Premier Sweets in Burbank should the Mets win the series.
The loser will also wear the tie of the winner’s team and deliver a one minute speech on the House floor “extolling the virtues” of the winning team.
So that one-minute speech turned into “Meet the Mets,” huh? We applaud Schiff for going above and beyond with his “speech,” but dude obviously could have jazzed it up a little bit. A top hat and a few leg kicks wouldn’t have killed ya, Adam!
